Euthanasia Visit

What to Expect

If you are feeling uncertain if it is the right time for euthanasia, please call or email us to arrange an in-home quality of life consultation. We may ask for medical records from your family veterinarian to help us better understand your pet’s illness and therapies tried. You may decide at this visit to try more palliative care options or to proceed with euthanasia.

If you have decided to proceed with a humane euthanasia, please call or email us to arrange a window of time for a home visit. Cremation and memorial options are included on our website. We will discuss options for aftercare and memorialization and take payment prior to our visit. This will allow you to remain focused on your pet at the time of the euthanasia.

The Beginning of Our Visit

When the veterinarian arrives at your home, she will answer any further questions/concerns you may have and perform a brief examination. Paperwork or billing may be completed if still required.

Pain Relief and Sedation

To ensure that your pet is comfortable and free from anxiety, the veterinarian will give an injection for sedation and pain relief. This will help your pet to be comfortable and relaxed. This process takes 5-15 minutes, depending on the health and temperament of the pet. Once your pet is sedate, a second injection may be given to provide anesthesia.

A Gentle Goodbye

A final painless injection will be given once you and your beloved pet are ready. While injecting the euthanasia solution, your pet will drift into an unconscious state and stop breathing. After the injection is given, the veterinarian will listen to the heart and let you know when they have passed.

Aftercare and Memorialization

We provide transportation of your pet to the pet crematorium for regular cremation or private cremation. We carry a stretcher with us, but may require your assistance to carry larger animals to our vehicle.

Your selection of memorial item(s) will be confirmed. If a private cremation and/or memorial item(s) are chosen, we will provide complimentary home delivery.

We will notify your family veterinarian of your pet’s passing for their records.
